These tests provided are in no way intended to determine a diagnosis of addiction. They are intended, to be used by people, who suspect that they cannot control themselves in a particular area, in determining whether or not they need help.

Answer the following questions honestly to yourself:

1. Has anyone ever told you that you drink too much?

2. Have you ever woken up in a strange place not knowing how you got there because of the amount of alcohol you consumed the night before?

3. Have you ever not been able to remember how you drove home?

4. Has your health ever suffered because of drinking?

5. Have anyone else's health suffered because of your drinking?

6. Have your finances suffered because of your drinking?

7. Has anyone else's health suffered because of your drinking?

8. Have you ever been late for school or work because of your drinking?

9. Have you ever lost a job because of your drinking?

10. Have you ever lied about how much alcohol you consume?

If you answered yes to only one of these questions, you should consider that you have a problem controlling your intake. Answering yes to more than one of these questions indicates a serious problem which must be addressed.

The Houghton House group of treatment centres was established in 1995 as a primary care treatment facility, catering solely for addiction recovery. Since then the group has expanded to include secondary and tertiary care facilities as well, which help patients to sustain a successful, recovery-based lifestyle. We also run a comprehensive outpatient program. Click here..
